The Healthy Urban Tree Canopy (HUTC) Program is an initiative of Cuyahoga County to promote a healthy tree canopy in our county with grant funds for tree planning, planting, and maintenance projects. It is a collaborative effort between the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, the Cuyahoga County Department of Sustainability, and Cuyahoga SWCD.

As of 2025, the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), through a resolution from its Board of Supervisors, is administering the Healthy Urban Tree Canopy Program. For the most up to date information regarding the HUTC program please visit SWCD's Healthy Urban Tree Canopy Program pages.

The HUTC grant program was administered by County Planning between 2019 and 2024 before transitioning to the Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District. During County Planning's administration, the program awarded more than $5.75 million in grants to municipalities, community development corporations, and various nonprofit organizations to support urban forestry initiatives across the county. These efforts resulted in the planting of more than 12,000 new trees and contributed to the protection, restoration, and long-term maintenance of Cuyahoga County's tree canopy.
