The Orange Village Wayfinding & Trails Plan will produce a comprehensive wayfinding plan and trail recommendations that will improve connectivity to community destinations and natural spaces within and around Orange Village.
Background
Developed in 2014, in conjunction with the Pinecrest Mixed-Use District, the Orange Village Recreational Trails provide pedestrian links to Orange Village’s neighborhoods and key community assets. The 2024 Orange Village Survey showed that residents not only value these trails but are also in support of trail additions and improvements. This Wayfinding & Trails Plan will supplement these trails by creating a cohesive signage system that directs users to local and regional parks, and community destinations.
Planning Process
County Planning awarded Orange Village professional planning services through a competitive grant process to complete the Orange Village Wayfinding & Trails Plan. The planning process consists of four phases:
Signage, Trail, & Destination Inventory: This initial phase will create an inventory of Orange Village’s existing wayfinding signage, recreational trails, and destinations. This includes both walking and driving audits of key areas, as well as aerial mapping analyses.
Best Practices & Typologies: The second phase will involve researching and outlining wayfinding signage and trail best practices and developing preliminary signage typology designs.
Location Recommendations: The next phase will develop a comprehensive mapping system of where new signs are recommended, the proposed contents of the sign, and system-wide trail connectivity recommendations.
Final Plan: The final phase will compile everything from the previous phases into a final report that Orange Village can use to implement new signage and wayfinding into their community.
